An independent diary of the British coast

Quay Diary is a small independent publication about harbour towns, coastal breaks and everyday life by the sea in Britain. It is written and edited by the editors of the site. We have no connection with any harbour authority, tourist board, rail company or government body, and nothing here is official guidance.

We set the site out like an almanac because that is how we think the coast is best understood: by date and by tide. Each entry is logged on the day it was published and answers one question that people ask before a trip, or before a move.

How entries are checked

• Facts come from pages we have opened ourselves, and we link to them. We favour public bodies, universities and professional organisations.
• Where we could not verify a detail, such as a timetable or a price, we leave it out or tell you where to look.
• Tide figures on this site are worked examples. Never navigate or plan a crossing from them.
• On law, money and health we give general information. We say when a solicitor, surveyor or doctor is the right person to ask.

Guest posts

We accept guest posts through our write for us page. Contributions go through the same checks as our own work, and any commercial relationship must be disclosed to readers.
